There is a hunger that's stirring in me
A touch from the King is all I need
I've tasted and seen but still I want more
You're all that I need, You're everything
The only thing that I want to do
Is lift my hands and glorify You
God, You are so holy
You are worthy of it all
I give You all the glory
You are worthy of it all
All the angels cry out holy
Holy is the Lord
All the angels cry out holy
Holy is the Lord
At fourteen years of age, I heard God speak to me and say that He anointed me to lead worship. In that moment He placed a desire in my heart to sing for Him. I loved singing. Since the moment I could form words, I sang and made up songs. As a kid I thought that I wanted to travel the world and be famous, but when I heard God speak to me, every desire to sing for the world faded away. He was to be the object of my affection. By fifteen I was able to play the guitar and sing at the same time. Any person that aspires to learn an instrument and sing at the same time knows that for a while it's a difficult task. By the age of sixteen I was leading worship for our youth at The Gospel Tabernacle in Baltimore, Maryland. I was blessed to have leaders who believed in the gift that God had placed in me.
The Heart Behind the Song
'Give You Glory' is a song that portrays my experience of being hungry for a fresh encounter from God. Anyone who has had the incredible opportunity to be encountered by the God of all creation personally, leading to a significant change in their life, can attest to the feeling of desiring God greatly. Some of the most 'hungry for God' people that I have ever met are ones who have been newly saved, or have been filled with the Holy Spirit for the first time. I have been in church my entire life. For me, hunger for more of God comes in waves. There are moments when I am content. However, one of my prayers that I continually go back to is, "God, may I never be satisfied!" I want to be content in my relationship with God, but at the same time I'd like to possess an unquenchable appetite for more of Him.
Every encounter that I have had with God, that has resulted in a shift in my relationship with Him, has always been outward focused - never selfish. Having an encounter with God is not just about feeling good and what you can get out of Him. It's about what He wants to do for you and through you. He is a God who wants to reward us when we seek Him (Hebrews 11:6). Coming to God for a fresh encounter is about sacrifice. You must offer yourself to Him with a humble heart, asking Him what it is He wants to do in your life. Come to Him knowing that you are nothing without Him. Come to Him empty with an open heart to be filled with the glory He wants to impart to you! When your heart is crying out, "God, I am here because I want to give you glory. I am here because I know that I am nothing apart from you," you are prepped for a fresh encounter with Him.
My heart's desire is to ultimately point to God and give Him honor and glory. What better way to have true encounters with Him than to come to the Lord empty of everything but adoration and worship? He is a God who truly cannot be out-given. The moment you come to Jesus and start to worship at His feet and give yourself to Him to be molded in His perfect will, is when He will overwhelm you with His love and affection, and draw close.
He is worthy of all affection.
He is worthy of all devotion.
He is worthy of all praise.
He is worthy of all honor.
He is worthy of all glory.
He is worthy of all power.
He is worthy of everything that we have to offer.
He is worthy of it ALL.
Revelation 4:11 (TPT)
"You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory, honor, and power, for you created all things, and by your plan they were created and exist."
God,
Let us be a people that understand surrender; that when You call to us we freely lay our lives down at Your feet because we know and understand that You are worthy to be praised. Let our hearts be open to Your perfect love because when we experience that perfect love, we understand that You want to pour Your Spirit out over us. Let our lives reflect Your Son.
In Jesus' Name,
Amen.
